How To Join The MKIVC Social Club
- Contact the New Members Officer with your name and address (or e-mail address). You will receive special access to our online forums and calendar and bulletin of events, and a New Members' information leaflet/application form. The New Members Officer will also be happy to give you any more information about the MKIVC and answer any other questions you may have. There is no trial membership fee and no obligation to join.
- We encourage you to attend the minimum four events during the first month, however we recognise that depending on when you applied, this may straddle a calendar month and so we may provide you with a second 'prospectives' bulletin. We do hope you wish to join in that period, however as events are normally only open to full members we regret that we will be unable to subsequently provide you with any further event details.
- If you see an event you would like to attend, contact our New Members Officer for details (where, organiser details etc) and they will also arrange for a special welcome for you. (When you become a Member, details of the host for a particular event will be available via the Members Area of the website and you will be able to contact them directly.)
Applying for membership
- Take your Application Form to the events you attend and ask a member of the Committee to sign it for you (you will need four signatures in total).
- Submit your membership Application and annual subscription to the Committee. Your application will need to be approved at the next monthly Committee meeting and you will be informed of the decision shortly afterwards. (This is usually a formality as applications are very rarely turned down. However, the right to decline membership is reserved.)
- You could be a full member of the MKIVC and enjoying a whole new social life in a very short space of time.
Subscriptions
- The basic annual subscription rates are £25 single, £40 joint (joint membership is available to a couple at the same address).
- When your renewal is due, if you have organised two to four events in the previous year, you can claim a £5 discount. If you put on five or more events, you can claim further £5 discount. This means if you put on just 5 events in a year (easily done), your renewal subscription would be just £15 single and £30 joint (joint member's events are summed).
- Subscriptions are required to cover membership of The Association of Inter-Varsity Clubs, public liability insurance and the monthly running costs of the club e.g.: publicity (advertising, posters, leaflets), postage, website, prospective member packs, theatre, YHA membership, etc.
- We try to keep subscriptions to a minimum and any surplus is used as cash reserves or put back into the club - usually to our many subsidised events (Christmas party and the Summer party receive the biggest subsidy - usually), and the odd equipment purchase (eg goal posts for the football, disco equipment) all of which can be borrowed by members for free.
- As a member you can apply for one of your events to receive a subsidy of up to £25.
- Our accounts are audited annually and all Members can gain access to the accounts.
